Using Evergreens For Holiday Décor

With so many options, color schemes, and themes for the holidays, there is nothing we love more than going back to the basics and using evergreens for holiday decor. We took inspiration from nature and used one of our favorite evergreens 3 ways for a simple, elegant, and non-fussy décor.

Want to create a whimsical winter in your own space? Here’s what we used:

The Plant
Emerald Squeeze™ Arborvitae
This evergreen stays narrow and compact, so it works great in containers while young, and fits in those small garden spots at its mature size of 8’ x 4’. We took our evergreen cuttings right from its branches.

The Supplies
Holiday Ornaments
Wreath Form
Festive Ribbon

1. Trim The Tree

Emerald Squeeze™ is already festive, but for a quintessentially Christmas look, you can add ornaments for easy décor. We decided on a classic red ball shape but try anything you like. Bird ornaments, gold and silver stars, and burlap ribbon are great options.

2. Make A Wreath

With a tree as small as Emerald Squeeze™ you do want to be cautious taking too many trimmings. We were able to get enough greens from seasonal pruning to make a whimsical woodland wreath. A woven branch form allows you to easily slide in each cutting, but you can use any type of form you like. Add a festive ribbon as a finishing touch!

3. Welcome Winter

The best part about using evergreens for holiday décor is that once the holidays are over you still have gorgeous winter foliage and vibrant color through the winter. This tree is a perfect size to place on either side of the front door in statement urns. For added color, try planting a cold hardy perennial at the base, like these violets.
